Mix bit media-sharing has become something of a phenomenon over the past few years and there are plenty of tools to help you do it. One such tool is MixBit. Available on iOS and Android, MixBit is a mobile app that allows you to take video clips, add audio and turn them into compilations.

Think You Tube but with more editing power. Incidentally, MixBit was conceived by Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, the duo behind YouTube.

MixBit allows you to upload videos of between a couple of seconds to an hour in length. That takes it past Vine or Instagram and offers a lot of creative freedom for those who love video. Not only canyou shoot and edit original video, but you can also take existing material and add your own twist to it. You’re also free to remix anything you find on the MixBit website and to turn it into something completely different.

Once you download the app, you have to create an account to get started. The interface is simple, borderless and easy to get to grips with. The home page shows the latest uploads and a colour-coded line underneath to show the individual clips that make up the video. Tap ‘M’ in the top left to access the main menu and explore the rest of the site.

To create a video, tap ‘+’ in the top right. Use your phone to record video for up to 16 seconds at a time. You can then combine up to 256 of these clips to make a video lasting up to an hour.

Once your clip is complete, hit the arrow button to edit. The editor is powerful enough to create decent videos and offers a little fun in the process.

You can also import videos and take video from the MixBit site to mash them up. Once complete, you can then tap the arrow in the bottom right to share it online. This part works just like Vine. You can give it a title, add hashtags and then share it on Facebook and also on Twitter.

MixBit is a neat mobile app that gives you hours of fun if you have the time for it.
