Allan Gatt (August 23) could not have been more factual about the disregard of “human interest issues” in favour of “mass-cretinism currently masquerading as concern for the environment”.
Hunters have long been criticising the fact that the protection of birds seems to be given more priority than protecting human life. No human or animal is to be mistreated or abused, and laws are there to ensure no such thing occurs.
Following the European Court verdict, which opened the door to limited spring hunting in Malta, can anyone understand all the opposition to legal hunting of a few birds on their way to breed and the acceptance of legal abortion by many of those who oppose hunting?
For anyone dismissing such an issue, statistics show that “in Europe, around 30 per cent of pregnancies end in abortion.” And yet many would rather scrutinise Malta’s hunters.
