Dom Mintoff granted all his assets to his two daughters, according to his last will written in 1997.

The former Prime Minister, who died last month aged 96, had appointed Judge Philip Sciberras and former dockyard worker Sammy Meilaq, his long-time confidant, as the executors of his last will.

The will was written in July 1997 by notary Bartholomew Micallef and replaced his only other registered will, which was drawn up in August 1979 by former Foreign Minister Alex Sceberras Trigona.

Both wills were written jointly with his wife Moyra de Vere, who died in December 1997, five months after signing the latest will.

No details of Mr Mintoff’s wealth are provided in the will. All assets and possession are granted to his daughters Anne McKenna and Yana (Joan) Bland Mintoff, a new Labour candidate.

According to Article 770 of the Civil Code, executors of a will are paid a “moderate” fee that is determined by the court and related to the value of the estate they are administering (usually a percentage). The executors can waive this right.

Mr Mintoff’s handwritten will was drawn up in Parliament on July 18, some months before his long-drawn out dispute with Alfred Sant’s Government.

In August 1979, Mr Mintoff and his wife had written a more detailed will in English. In that will Ms Mintoff left £3,500 to various individuals and organisations: £1,000 to Amnesty International, £500 to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain, £1,000 to Howard and Elizabeth Sheppard, residing in England, and £500 each to Andrew and Susan Margraff, residing in Australia.

However, none of these organisations or individuals featured in the more recent will.

Mr Mintoff died on August 20 in his Tarxien home and was given a State funeral five days later.
