Justice Minister Owen Bonnici yesterday sued the Nationalist Party daily for libel, saying it made false allegations on a traffic accident he was involved in last week in which a man suffered a broken knee.

Dr Bonnici was driving his personal car when he crashed into a stationary vehicle just outside the Santa Venera tunnels on April 3. The owner, who was standing in front of the vehicle was injured and taken to hospital, from where he was released two days later.

Dr Bonnici argued that the news item contained “malicious” allegations through which In-Nazzjon made use of an “unfortunate” incident to gain political mileage.
