The lowering of the age of consent for sexual relations from 18 to 16 and the raising of the minimum age for the consumption of alcohol from 17 to 18 may be considered by the Ministry for Family Affairs and Social Solidarity.

The ministry is in the first stages of drafting comprehensive laws in the Children’s Act.

The information was given by Minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca who was answering parliamentary questions by Etienne Grech (PL).
