Children tried their hand at milking wooden cows in Għargħur as calves cuddled in their temporary stalls for the fourth edition of the Milk Festival yesterday.

The event, held on the parish square, was organised by the local council and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Agriculture.

The main participants were the Milk Producers’ Cooperative, Malta Dairy Products, the Ħanini Gozitan Dairy Heritage producers and Xirka tan-Nagħaġ u l-Mogħoż (sheep and goats society).

Through this yearly festival, Naturalment Malti, a local branding campaign, aims to inform people about the benefits of local dairy products and encourages the breeding of cows, sheep and goats.

The road in front of the parish church was lined with information stalls that included demonstrations in filigree, cotton and restoration.

The main attractions were, of course, dairy animals, a visit to a cow farm in the area and food stalls selling traditional dishes made from dairy products.

Funds were collected from sales of a 100-kilo ricotta pie made by The Apetitosa Confectionery in aid of Puttinu Cares.
