History In Action, a three-day military festival is being held in the newly established open-air display arena at Fort Rinella, Kalkara to mark the 20th anniversary from the opening of the same fort as a cultural attraction. This is taking place between today and Sunday. This event will be a special one involving the participation of a number of British Victorian re-enactment groups including the famed 17th Lancers and the Die Hards. The programme will consist in skill-at-arms displays by each group using period weaponry; a combined display between the artillery, cavalry and infantry simulating an attack on an entrenched enemy position and numerous other displays featuring period sports completions and skill riding. The festival will culminate on its last day with the firing of the Armstrong 100-ton gun precisely at 4 p.m.
For the duration of the festival days, guided tours and film shows about the history of the fort will be provided between 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. only. Today’s display will be aimed at schoolchildren; therefore it will only take place in the morning. The time for the festival displays tomorrow and on Sunday will be 2 and 4 p.m.
