Qormi went ahead on 10 minutes when Juan Sarcia slotted home as a result of a penalty corner action during the first move worthy of note in this Challenge Cup tie.

Hotsticks reacted but did not put Qormi’s defence under any undue pressure and did not avail themselves of a penalty corner awarded on 30 minutes either.

Just before half-time Jonathan Borg cut through the Hotsticks defence on a solo run but pushed his shot wide.

Qormi enjoyed territorial advantage on the change of ends, missing a couple of chances with Emile Borg.

The Hotsticks custodian then distinguished himself with two fine saves in quick succession.

The tempo of the game took a different turn and Hotsticks won two penalty corners but were unable to capitalise.

Qormi held on to their lead by retaining possession and went on to grab a second goal when Thomas De Giovanni crossed after a run down the left flank for Kyle Micallef to flick into the net.

The initial stages of the match provided lively fare but it was not until the 15th minute that White Hart won the first penalty corner of the game only to be denied by Rabat’s custodian Ian Azzopardi.

On 28 minutes, Charlot Anto-nelli flicked home a pass which he received from outside the D and although White Hart pressed hard for an equaliser Rabat went in for the break holding on to their slim lead.

Rabat doubled their advantage after the break when Kevin Micallef picked up a rebound off the White Hart keeper’s pads and passed to Shawn Falzon who netted.

White Hart continued to play attractive hockey but were found wanting in the final third of the pitch.

Azzopardi effected three fine saves in the Rabat goal and on 65 minutes the score became 3-0 when Micallef crossed for Antonelli to grab his second goal and seal the win.
