Sliema-born Mgr Peter Baldacchino, a former bottling plant technician, has been named Auxiliary Bishop of Miami.
Mgr Baldacchino, 53, who serves as chancellor in the Turks and Caicos Islands, studied at St Francis School in Msida, Mt Carmel College and Umberto Colosso trade school in Santa Venera. He became a seminarian and then a priest in Newark, USA, in 1996.
Mgr Baldacchino speaks all three of the Miami Church’s three main languages: English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
He is expected to be ordained bishop on March 19, the first anniversary of Pope Francis’s inauguration of his Petrine Ministry.
