With reference to Joe Zammit’s letter (November 17), I wish to draw this gentleman’s attention to the fact that after Mgr Charles Scicluna was nominated as Auxiliary Bishop of Malta, he expressed his opinion that if people find it highly unacceptable for Catholic priests – more than anyone else – to be guilty of paedophilia this proves that they still hold Catholic priests in high regard and generally look up to them.
Mgr Scicluna further commented that he would have been far more preoccupied if people didn’t care a hoot about child sexual abuse by Catholic priests.
What The Daily Telegraph said in March 2010, that, thanks to Pope Benedict XVI, “there is no safer place for a child today to be than with a Catholic priest”, is highly debatable, however, Christ’s own words “to beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing” is certainly an undebatable reality.
Finally, may I again remind Mr Zammit that his past reasoning that “up to now” we have no official Maltese paedophile priests is nowadays an unequivocal confirmed myth.
