Mepa’s chairman is holding the role of executive chairman in a transitory manner. Among other tasks he is overseeing the implementation of the Mepa reform process while the migration of executive powers to the authority’s CEO gets under way.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this in reply to a parliamentary question by Leo Brincat (PL).

Dr Gonzi added that this was a vast reform which would affect all the authority’s operative aspects. The decision could have been taken to engage a Charge Manager, but instead the reform process is being led directly by the chairman and the CEO.

As to Mr Brincat’s question on how long the transition process is expected to be, Dr Gonzi said it was premature to give a fixed date, but the process would take months rather than weeks.
