The owner of an illegal scrapyard in Siġġiewi cleared the site after being slapped with an enforcement notice last week.

On December 4, the planning authority’s enforcement directorate removed derelict cars and material illegally dumped in the makeshift yard in Ramija Street.

A large waste carrier vehicle, a lorry and a number of scrapped cars, tyres, engine parts, timber and plastic were also cleared.

The owner was then given a few days to remove the remaining items and clean up the site.

Served with an enforcement notice in 2009, the site had become a health hazard to residents living close by.
