Vittoriosa Stars vs Tarxien Rainbows (today 2pm, Hibs Stadium).

Tarxien have significantly improved their survival chances after four wins and a draw lifted them seven points clear of second-bottom Vittoriosa, their opponents today.

Vittoriosa were pegged back by Naxxar last weekend after going 3-1 up but the point will have raised their spirits after a 5-1 thrashing to Qormi.

Tarxien have no selection problems with midfielder Manuel Caruana returning from suspension.

A boost for Vittoriosa is the return of Ousmane Sidibe, Filipe Aguiar and Federico Santaguida but they must make do without defender Clive Brincat who is suspended.

Previous results: Vittoriosa vs Tarxien 2-2, 3-0, 1-1.

Naxxar Lions vs Rabat Ajax (today 2pm, Tedesco Stadium).

Without a win in their last nine matches, Naxxar entertain high hopes of halting that negative sequence when facing lowly Rabat.

Not that Naxxar will be taking their beleaguered opponents lightly after the Magpies held them to a 1-1 draw in their opening Relegation Pool match.

Naxxar can rely on a full squad as Angus Buhagiar, Thiago and Andrew Decesare are all in line for a first-team recall after serving suspension.

Rabat coach Steve D’Amato is again hindered by a long injury list. Dylan Falzon, Adam Smeir, Daniel Pelaez, Sorin Oproiescu and Sacha Cortis are out but goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic has recovered from flu.

Winger Jonathan Bajada is also back after suspension kept him out of the 5-0 rout to Floriana.

Previous results: Naxxar vs Rabat 2-1, 3-0, 1-1.

Birkirkara vs Balzan (today 4pm, Hibs Stadium).

Leaders Birkirkara will be relishing the prospect to crank up the pressure on nearest pursuers Valletta as victory over Balzan would take them five points clear at the summit.

Cut adrift at the bottom of the Championship Pool after five straight losses, Balzan must step up their game if they are to end their dismal run.

Birkirkara midfielder Ryan Scicluna is available after missing the Valletta draw through suspension but defender Alejandro Mendoza could miss out due to hamstring trouble.

Balzan are also expected to be at full strength with Kurt Magro returning after seeing out his one-match ban in the 4-2 defeat to Mosta.

Previous results: Birkirkara vs Balzan 2-1, 2-1, 3-1.

Qormi vs Floriana (today 4.15pm, Tedesco Stadium).

The stakes are high for both teams. Floriana will make a significant step towards securing their status if they take maximum points while Qormi are desperate for a tonic after going down 4-0 to Tarxien only days after their agonising exit from the FA Trophy semi-finals.

Qormi are in a precarious position in the table, only three points outside the drop zone. Coach Karel Zeman is deprived of Brazilian forward Jorginho, suspended.

Floriana will be hopeful of having all players available today with midfielder Joseph Borg almost completing his recovery from injury.

Previous results: Qormi vs Floriana 0-3, 2-2, 2-3.

Hibernians vs Mosta (tomorrow 2pm, National Stadium).

Hibs’ main objective is to cement third place but a win over fellow European contenders Mosta would also keep their flickering title hopes alive as the Paolites are only three points behind Valletta and five adrift of leaders Birkirkara.

Mosta are still outsiders for a Europa League berth but their latest come-from-behind win over Balzan highlighted the Blues’ resolve to sustain their challenge for a top-four finish.

Goalkeeper Jurgen Borg and Scott Chircop are the two notable absentees for Hibs.

Chircop’s season is over after the young defender injured his cartilage in the 3-1 win over Sliema.

Mosta welcome back Tyrone Farrugia, Gian Marco Piccioni and Ryan Grech who were suspended for the Balzan game.

Previous results: Hibernians vs Mosta 2-0, 2-3, 1-2.
