Two men were allegedly found putting drugs in sachets next to a horse in a Qormi stable during a police raid last month, a court heard yesterday.

Rosario Cortis, 31, of Qormi and Carmel Muscat, 40, of Siġġiewi are pleading not guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine in amounts that denoted it was not for their personal use.

Police Inspector Gabriel Micallef said officers went into a garage complex and, on an upper level, found a locked gate blocking the entrance to three or four garages, which are also used as stables.

They burst into one and found Mr Cortis, Mr Muscat and a horse.

The drugs were found in a workshop forming part of the garage, the prosecuting officer said, adding that 18 grams of heroin, 40 sachets of the same drug and 80 grams of cocaine were found.

Weighing scales with traces of a brown powder on it and a knife also having the same traces of powder were also found.

The witness said he found a key to a garage opposite and inside he discovered a packet of heroin.

The case continues. Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
