The last match from the winter series between Melita Betfair and Krishna CC was played last weekend at Marsa.

Melita opted to bat first with Johnny Grima and Ronnie Sacco at the crease as it was agreed that the game be shortened to 20 overs.

After five dot balls, Grima opened up and smashed three boundaries only to be caught by Dave Borg off the bowling of Bikram Arora when on 19 runs.

Borg was again involved in the fall of Sacco’s wicket. This time he was the bowler and the Melita batsman was caught by Andy Lenard after scoring 15 runs.

Amit, batting at number three, was going along steadily until a mix-up occurred and he ended up run-out on 13 runs.

Tony Azzopardi livened up the innings, scoring 14 runs off six balls. Then, as he was trying for his fourth four-pointer, he missed and was bowled by Chandika.

Sunny Krishna followed in Azzopardi’s footsteps, scoring 22 from 15 balls before being caught by Marlon as Ian Pendelbury was in and out quite quickly and did not bother the scorers.

Sarfraz Ali and Mike Caruana remained not out on 19 and 11 runs respectively. The Krishna side made use of eight bowlers and Prasad was the only one who bowled a maiden. Melita scored 129 runs.

The Krishna reply started off with a bang with Borg and Marlon producing a half-century partnership before the latter was ousted by Gordon Hewitt. Marlon scored 22 and Borg went on to make 34 runs before being bowled by Sacco.

Crabbe followed up the good work and top-scored with 35 runs. He eventually holed out to Sacco, off the bowling of Sunny Krishna.

John Rusher played one of his best innings and added 16 runs before his wicket fell on the last ball of the innings. The returning Bikram Arora and Robert Krishna had both failed to add more runs as Prasad Abesinghe remained unbeaten on 10 runs.

The Krishna side were aided with six extras and totalled 123 runs... just six short of the required target to match Melita’s score.
