Senglea Athletic 0
Melita 1

Melita returned to winning ways after beating promotion favourites Senglea with the all-important goal coming early in the second half.

Although Senglea were the better side, especially in the first 45 minutes, Melita defended well and had Nicholas Grima in fine form, effecting a string of fine saves.

This result meant that in the last four matches, Senglea have gained only two points from the last 12.

Grima was soon called to action on four minutes when he kept out Kane Farrugia’s long range shot.

On 23 minutes, De Sousa Dias’s header finished just over.

Senglea were unlucky a minute before the break when Austin Obaje-Smith turned well in the area but his low shot hit the post.

Melita stunned Senglea on 48 minutes when Emilio Cornago chested the ball down and the Spaniard hit home with a halfvolley.

Four minutes later a De Sousa Dias effort was pushed away by Grima.

Melita should have close the match with three minutes to go when Luke Micallef was freed by Axl Xuereb but Farrugia was on hand to block his effort.
