Two matches from the Summer League were played last weekend at the Marsa oval.

Krishna batted first against Overseas who bowled out their opponents after a fine display.

There were four run-outs with the quick-minded Sean Duffy involved in three of them. Robert Krishna top-scored with 17 runs which included two boundaries.

Joy Ghoseroy added 13 while extras accounted for 24 from the total of 94 runs.

Mike Caruana took three wickets while Roger Bradley, Sean Byrne and Imran Masih all bagged a wicket each.

However, Overseas were unable to extend their fine form to the crease as they were dismissed for a mere 34 runs.

Pragnesh Vaso ripped through four batsmen in one over with unplayable Yorkers as Kevin Krishna and Robert Krishna both took two wickets each.

Krishna earned seven points for their win while Overseas had to settle for two.

The second game between Melita Betfair and Marsa had the latter team batting first.

Frank Spiteri led the way with a 37 from 30 balls and Simon Lavendar and Tony Slater both scored 16 runs apiece. John Farrugia chipped in with 11 points as Marsa totalled 110 runs from their 20 overs.

Andy Naudi was the main wicket-taker with four and Derek Ali had two.

The Melita reply started badly as they lost two batsman of their top order – Chris Riordan and Tim Wheeler – without scoring.

But Dave Borg went in and steadied the ship, battling hard and retiring on 23 runs. After his outstanding bowling show, Naudi terrorised his opponents with his batting and finished with 41 runs that secured his team’s win.

For Marsa, Sarfraz Ali took three wickets and Tony Azzopardi two.

Thanks to the seven points that came with their win, Melita maintained their position at the top of the standings with 46 points.

Krishna are now second ahead of Marsa.

Tomorrow, Melita play Overseas in another league match.
