The 16th Mediterranean Lions conference was recently held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Zone secretary Lion Tom Restall represented the five Lions Clubs in Malta at a conference themed The Ageing Population of Mediterranean People.

Mr Restall delivered a short presentation highlighting the facilities available in Malta for the elderly provided by the Government and the private sector, also pinpointing the various social facilities made available by the State.

During the course of the conference, delegates from Lions Clubs in the Mediterranean presented papers outlining the need to help the elderly.

Another interesting aspect discussed was the role of women in the Lions movement. International president Wayne Madden and international director Claudette Cornet addressed delegates on the important role women play within Lions.

At the end of the conference, Malta was confirmed as host country for the 2016 Mediterranean Lions Conference and Mr Restall as Malta’s representative in the Mediterranean Solidarity Movement.

Incoming 2013/2014 International president Barry Palmer of Australia will be visiting Malta shortly while making visits to regions within the Commonwealth.
