I would like to inform Charles Zammit (The Sunday Times, July 10) that the price of Carbamazepene (50-tablet pack) has actually decreased from €18.12 to €13.87, after the intervention of the Malta Competition andConsumer Affairs Authority,at the time the Consumer and Competition Department, lastSeptember.

The authority is continuously carrying out inspections in pharmacies to ensure that the prices decrease once the stock purchased at the old price is exhausted and pharmacies purchase new stocks at the new reduced price.

However, it would be appreciated if Mr Zammit contacts the authority to give the details of the pharmacy from where he bought this product at the old higher price, and the date of purchase.

This would help us carry out a thorough investigation sooner. He can either use the medicines helpline 2144 6446 from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or send an e-mail to medicines@gov.mt.
