The Medieval Mdina Festival returns this weekend for its 10th edition. Organised by the Mdina local council, the two-day celebration will treat visitors to a variety of re-enactments and activities.

Activities today and tomorrow begin with an opening ceremony at the De Vilhena Gate at 10am. Several parades, music, skirmishes and re-enactments will ensue.

A series of lectures will be held at the Palazzo Santa Sophia on both days, covering several topics including mullioned windows, limp vellum bindings, windows and roundel carvings and medieval girdle books.

The event will also include a Bonsai exhibition at St Agatha chapel, organised by the Bonsai Culture Group, as well as a display of icons and painting at St Rocco chapel, both on Villegaignon Street.

Young women’s choir Vox Dulcis Chorale will be performing in a concert at St Paul’s Cathedral under the direction of John Anthony Fsadni today at 7pm. Their repertoire will include music from the Middle Ages, as well as some modern songs based on medieval texts.

Entry to Palazzo Falson and the Mdina Dungeons will be at a discounted rate.

Both days will include a main battle in St Paul’s Square at 4pm and tomorrow evening will see a final parade and closing ceremony at 7pm.
