A 10-metre-high Christmas tree on a hexagonal base, made of steel and recyclable materials – by Mcast students from the Institute of Engineering and Transport and Electrical and Electronics – has been lit up at Smart City Malta. The tree has been colourfully decorated with plastic bottles and leftover electrical material.
The planning of the tree goes back to the start of this academic year when foundation students visited Smart City to familiarise themselves with the place.
This led to various brainstorming sessions, followed by a decision to create a tree made out of recyclable material. Students collected a large supply of plastic bottles, leftover electrical wires and other recyclables.
Once the material was collected, assembly kicked off and the students immersed themselves in the activity.
While congratulating the students for creating such a unique tree, Smart City’s CEO Anthony Tabone said any innovative ideas, especially if these promoted sustainability and were environmentally friendly, were welcomed.
