Several units at the Kordin Business Incubation Centre (KBIC) are to be assigned to Mcast for students of the college wishing to embark individually or in groups on projects with potential for commercialisation.
The arrangement is the result of an agreement recently signed between Mcast and Malta Enterprise. It aims to facilitate Mcast students’ entry to the entrepreneurial world and provides a framework to help students with original ideas to start and develop a successful business.
The two sides agreed to set up a projects board composed of Mcast officials and a Malta Enterprise representative to evaluate business proposals put forward by the students.
This agreement was signed by Malta Enterprise chairman Mario Vella and Mcast president Silvio de Bono, in the presence of Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, Economy Minister Chris Cardona, and Mcast principal and CEO Stephen Cachia.
Dr De Bono said Mcast had embarked on a process to develop and support entrepreneurship as a key skill for its students. He said the college was strengthening this area and an entrepreneurship committee has been set up to manage these initiatives and identify new ways of encouraging students to develop their entrepreneurial potential.
“The college has also embarked on a process to develop entrepreneurship as a curricular element across all levels. Each Mcast institute has appointed a staff member to provide students with the necessary guidance about start-ups,” Dr De Bono added.
