Mcast’s Library and Learning Resource Centre recently donated 178 books to the Corradino Correctional Facilities, to be used in educational programmes for people serving a prison sentence.

The library regularly introduces new books to its collections to provide resources for the college’s courses, and from time to time it also takes some books off its shelves. This year, the library decided to donate these surplus books to the Corradino Correctional Facilities’ Education Centre.

The centre conducts classes in several academic subjects for prisoners and assists prisoners who are granted permission to attend courses at educational institutions such as Mcast and the University.

During the book presentation, Joseph Vella, Corradino Correctional Facilities’ education coordinator, said the prison’s population has increased substantially over the past few years and the Education Centre is working to expand its services, including its library.
