Mazars Malta, a member firm of international audit and advisory group Mazars, recently launched a guide to the duties and responsibilities of the key official (KO), in the context of companies that apply for a remote gaming licence from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).

The KO plays a key role in the relationship between the MGA and the licensee, acting as the primary point of contact and liaison between the two. Local legislation establishes the main function of the KO as one focused on personally supervising the operations of a licensee, ensuring that the latter complies with all applicable laws and regulations, the conditions of the licence, and any directives issued by the MGA to the licensee.

Mazars Malta partner Alan Craig said: “The pivotal role of a key official within the local remote gaming sector – primarily as guardian of the licence obtained from the Authority – prompted us to prepare and publish a practical guide to the myriad duties and responsibilities of the KO.

“The MGA puts great emphasis on the fitness and propriety of a person to fulfil the role of KO, including the applicant’s full understanding of the post’s function, and sound knowledge of the KO’s obligations at law and in practice. This guide will help prospective applicants and licensees to understand better the MGA’s requirements and expectations in this regard.”

Mr Craig added that this initiative is in line with Mazars Malta’s business advisory mission, and specifically its reputation as a specialist in the gaming sector.
