The Nadur local council has condemned the theft of 32 rubber safety mats that were set beneath the swings of the children’s playground in San Blas and appealed to the public to pass on any information to the police.

The village would suffer from this vandalism, the council said in a statement yesterday.

It pointed out that, over the years, it had made an effort and invested money to create “quality” open spaces.

It was always making an effort to maintain these spaces in a good state and the theft of the rubber mats threw a spanner in the works.

The council thanked the police for their “prompt intervention” and called on the authorities to investigate and, if necessary, take action.
