The Women’s Cancer Gozo Association will tomorrow be organising a Mass at St Agatha chapel in Victoria at 10am.
St Agatha is known for her intercession among breast cancer patients. Her feast day is celebrated on February 5.
Little is known about the daily life of St Agatha, an early Christian martyr of the 3rd century, but she is one of the most venerated virgin martyrs of the Catholic Church.
It is believed that she was born around 231 in Sicily to a rich and noble family. The notably beautiful Agatha dedicated her life to God and became a consecrated virgin.
After Quintanus, the governor of Sicily, tried in vain to force her to consent to sin, she was imprisoned, beaten and subjected to torture that eventually involved the shearing off of her breasts.
Transport will be provided from Ċirkewwa to Victoria and back. For more information and to book, call Liz Curmi on 7797 7910.
