Birkirkara boxer Steve Martin (picture) will be fighting for the WBU light welterweight belt against German Sabi Vias at the Sky Club, St Julian’s, on Friday.

Martin’s climb to this level of boxing is due to his dedication and hard work, training up to five hours daily under the watchful eye of Scott Dixon who will be fighting on the same bill but only as a warm-up fight.

Gary Hincks, Martin’s manager, said his boxer is a good prospect with a bright future in the sport.

“He is definitely one of the best Maltese fighters around and a very skilful one,” he said.

“If he keeps the good work going he will be a name that will be banded around the boxing world.”
