Regarding David Carrington’s comments (November 1), the Ministry for Gozo would like to clarify that the protection of Marsalforn by means of a breakwater is being given the priority it deserves.

In fact, an Environmental Impact Assessment, which is a detailed study that looks into topic areas such as marine environment, marine archaeology, geo-environment, landscape and visual amenity, noise, social impacts and construction methodology as required by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, is in its final stages and will be submitted in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, a physical model of Marsalforn Bay has also been constructed and tests have been carried out to check the best breakwater configuration.

This issue is being tackled on its own merits and is not being hindered by other plans for the area.
