Over the weekend, Marsa played a two-game series against newcomers Pribright. It was to be a high-scoring series for the home team.

On Saturday, the Marsa team batted first and obtained their highest score since July 2009 following a count of 267 runs.

Dave Borg led the way with his first century, ending with 103 runs. This was the first century since May of 2010 against a touring team.

Borg scored nine fours and three sixes along the way.

Sunny Krishna just managed to make 50 runs before getting bowled. Mike Caruana (31) and John Grima (21) were the other batsmen who contributed to the score. For Pirbright, R. Law took two wickets while D. Connery and R. Oakley claimed a wicket each.

As so often happens when a team is chasing a high score, risks are taken and the visitors found themselves in deep water and ended up being bowled out for 98 runs.

D. Connery top scored with 18 runs while S. Hailwood (16), H. Dennis (15) and S. Gray (13) were the main scorers for the visitors.

For the home team, Caruana and Gordon Hewitt took three wickets apiece while Kevin Krishna and Sarfraz Ali took two wickets each.

On Sunday, Pribright were out for revenge.

Marsa batted first again and amassed another high score, bettering the previous day’s tally after scoring 285 runs.

This time, Ronnie Sacco led the way, scoring his second century since 2005. He hit a 100 which included 10 fours and a six.

Justin Brooke also played a great innings, scoring 77 runs. Tim Wheeler had 28 , Chris Riordan 35 and Sean Byrne 15.

For the visitors, S. Aldrich, R. Law and R. Oakley took a wicket each.

In reply, Pribright again went for the runs, taking plenty of risks and were again bowled out, this time for 122 runs.

B. Flanegan, with 15 runs, J. Thompson, 14, and Aldrich, 13, were the main scorers.

Sean Byrne, Tony Slater and Andy Naudi were the main wicket-takers with two each.

Marsa won the series 2-0.
