Over the weekend, Marsa CC played newcomers Wales O-50s in a two-game series at the oval.

The home team batted first on Saturday as the visitors bowled efficiently and limited the hosts to 55 runs from 20 overs, taking the wickets of Dave Borg (14 runs), Andy Naudi (20) and that of Ranjit who was playing in his first game.

Paul Bradley and George Agius then started to sew a partnership to steady the innings until Agius was bowled after making 18 runs.

John Grima joined Bradley and together they produced a face-saving run of 76. Bradley was finally caught when he had made 52 while Grima remained to the end, finishing with 41.

Ronnie Sacco made a cameo innings, scoring 22 runs off 12 balls to boost the total to 171 runs.

The Welsh reply was up and down right through the innings with M. Hayden (17), J. Morris (24), D. Griffith (22) and M. Cockell (11) hitting the points but had their wickets taken at critical times.

The game came to the last over with M. Lloyd (32) and P. Godwin (27) at the crease and other seven runs needed.

The pair soon polished off the runs and won the game for Wales O-50s with two balls to spare.

On Sunday, the visitors batted first and totalled 193 runs from their 40 overs.

P. Docherty led the innings with a well-structured 72. His time at the crease came to an with a brilliant piece of fielding by Tony Slater.

The Marsa reply was steady and again the game was to be decided in the last over with Andy Lenard (46) and Samuel Aquilina (six) needing four runs for victory.

In a nervous over, Aquilina hit the winning run with a ball to spare for Marsa to square the series.

Earlier, Nowell Khosla had played a superb innings of 88 runs as Sunny Krishna chipped in with a 38.

The Summer League continues on Saturday with the match between Krishna and newcomers POP Mellieħa.
