Melita played Krishna in last week’s opening match from the 2011 Summer League at Marsa.

League contenders Melita batted first but it was not one of their best days and had Krishna not bowled so many wides, it could have been much worse for them.

Melita totalled 81 runs with Justin Brooke top-scoring with 23 runs not out. Greg Symons managed 18 and Joy Ghoseroy was the only other batsman to make it into double figures, 12 runs.

Here, one must mention the run-out of Nowell Khosla.

He was running for a single but a direct Kevin Krishna hit had him short off his ground. Indeed, an inspiring piece of fielding.

In reply, it took Krishna just over 17 overs to make the runs required.

Sunny Krishna opened the batting and kept going from where he had left off the week before, scoring 33 runs from 30 balls, including two big 6s and two 4s.

Bikram Arora scored 19 which included three 4s as John Grima saw his team over the line with ten runs.

Khosla took two wickets for Melita and Gordon Hewitt one.

Krishna added seven points while Melita earned only one and now they have to win their last game to stand any chance for the title.

In the second game, Marsa batted first and were kept to 110 runs in their 20 overs. Mat Booth scored 24 and Frank Spiteri played a match-winning 23 runs from 13 balls.

Dave Borg added 12 runs before being superbly run out by a direct Sean Duffy hit. Derek Ali chipped in with 15 runs.

The Overseas reply started well with Mike Caruana and Paul Bradley both managing to play their 30 balls and making 26 runs each.

Overseas produced a bold effort but fell short by just six runs.

For Marsa, Ronnie Sacco took two wickets. With this win league leaders Marsa are now six points clear of second-placed Melita.

Only one game will be played on Saturday, that between Melita and Overseas. Marsa-Krishna is scheduled for September 17.
