Over the weekend Marsa CC played against new touring team Ash Tree in a two-game series.

Marsa batted first on Saturday with Robert Krishna and Sumair Khan first at the crease.

Khan was first to go after managing just one run but Krishna went on to collect 27.

Krishna’s son, Sunny, made 11 runs before getting a leading edge that lobbed high and straight back to the bowler who made a good effort to take the catch.

Joy Ghoseroy added 17 cautious runs before being caught and at this stage the home team were on a 100 runs off 22 overs with five wickets lost.

Bikram Arora made his presence felt and scored 51 runs from 43 balls faced which included two fours and three sixes.

Derek Ali topped 39 and John Grima 25 as the Ash Tree bowling was rather wayward, giving away 37 extras which helped the home team to a reasonable score of 208.

The tourists’ reply was going well with B. Spray scoring 30, D. Waters 47, M. Russell 44 and M. Finnerty 17. However, once this quartet of batsmen had lost their wickets, the others tumbled and the side was bowled out for 172 runs.

Gordon Hewitt was the main wicket-taker with three.

A 20-over game was played on Sunday and this time Ash Tree batted first. They were all out by the 18th over, totalling 82 runs. Waters was their highest scorer with 29.

It only took Marsa ten overs to make the runs required.

Dhruv Duggal (27), Chris Riorden (25) and Ewan Perens (16) were the main run-makers for Marsa who won the series 2-0.
