Żabbar St Patrick 0
Gżira United 3
As expected, Gżira United cruised into the fourth round of the FA Trophy following a commanding performance against a spirited Żabbar side, yesterday.
Darren Abdilla’s Gżira opened the scoreline on 17 minutes when a Yanis Tonna grounder from 25 metres out left the keeper helpless.
Gżira doubled their lead two minutes later when Moises Avila Perez put Jonathan Bondin through and he tapped the ball home from close in.
The Saints rarely troubled Gżira. But the Division Two underdogs were unlucky not to reduce the arrears on 36 minutes when a Julio Cesar Sousa effort was stopped in style by Gerada. From the corner, Jean Claude Cesare hit the Maroons post.
The Saints had a Dillon Pace free-kick stopped by the keeper but the cup tie failed to hit the same levels as the opening half as the pace was slower after the break.
Simon Shead missed a sitter for Gżira and an Avila Perez free-kick was parried by Camilleri as the Maroons held the upperhand.
Then, with four minutes to go, substitute Udojoh Ekele sealed the issue for Gżira with a third goal after a powerful drive from an angle.
