The Maltese genome is currently being sequenced in a research project aimed to help understand human development and identify disease at an earlier stage, thereby speeding up cures.

Research is also taking place locally on the genomes of other organisms that may be of social and economic interest.

‘Genomes of Malta’ is the subject of this month’s Business and Scientific meeting of the Malta Chamber of Scientists to be held in collaboration with the University and St James Cavalier Center for Creativity on Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. at St James Cavalier in Valletta.

Gabrielle Zammit, Adrian Bugeja Douglas and Joseph Borg will take part in the discussion, which will be chaired by Alex Felice.

Science professionals, educators and students are welcome.
