I was one of those passengers who was supposed to depart to Manchester on Air Malta flight KM146 on August 24.

I had never seen such disorganisation at an airport. The flight departure display was showing “New Info @ x PM”, updating every 30 minutes, pushing the delay by 30 minutes each time.

Eventually someone from Air Malta came out at the check-in desk and was obviously bombarded with questions from irate passengers but all he could answer was: “We don’t know.”

The Air Malta employee apparently took offence at some remark and decided to go back inside.

No one came out for around an hour as passengers stood by check-in desk 13 wandering about. No information was given although several Air Malta staff members were coming in and out from the back and avoiding us.

Eventually, other Air Malta staff came out and started talking to passengers. They took my number and said they would call with new information regarding the flight. They never called. I found out about the new rescheduled time from timesofmalta.com.

I was going to watch Manchester United play at Old Trafford. The game was due to kick off at 3 p.m. The flight from Malta would leave at 2 p.m. Guess who stayed home for the weekend?

I wonder if Air Malta will be picking up the tab for all my bookings for the weekend. If it can spend €2 million on a new paint job, it can surely afford to pay back my lost weekend, right?
