A Libyan man who stole a chaser from a car parked in Valletta has been jailed for year and ordered to follow a drug rehabilitation programme.

Kaled Mohamed Ben Gamhur, a 35-year-old Libyan who lives in Valletta, admitted stealing the chaser from a car last Wednesday morning. The court heard he was caught red-handed and the chaser was returned to its owner.

After considering the early guilty plea and the fact that he was a relapser, Magistrate Aaron Bugeja jailed the man for a year and also issued a nine-month treatment order so he could follow a drug rehabilitation programme while serving time.

Police Inspector Carlos Cordina prosecuted while lawyer Christopher Chircop appeared for the accused.
