Police Board chairman Franco Depasquale, a retired judge, yesterday insisted on a “no comment” when asked for clarifications on elements of the report he concluded last week.

“With all due respect, I do not think it is opportune to be discussing the report with you. I heard and read a lot of things, some of which were insulting, but I’m not going to react to them. For the moment, count me out,” he told Times of Malta when contacted yesterday.

He urged people to read the report well because he believed it was “very detailed” and “left nothing out”.

He did not want to discuss what amends the wrongly accused man, Darryl Borg, would be given, since the police inspectors who had charged him in court for a crime he had not committed were not reprimanded.

The report did not state whether any disciplinary action should be taken against them.

The Police Board recommended that action be taken against Police Inspector Elton Taliana who arrested and brought to justice the culprit of the hold-up.

According to the board, he failed to inform his superiors that he had arrested a man who, albeit later, had admitted to a crime over which Mr Borg was still in remand.
