A 20-year-old man stole various items from his grandfather, with whom he lived, to sustain his drug habit and then assaulted him when he was told to pack leave, a court heard yesterday.

Daniel Grima from Kalkara stole various items from his 66-year-old grandfather’s home over the past months, including a Playstation console and a digital camera.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo told Magistrate Giovanni Grixti how Mr Grima has a drug problem and was selling the items to buy drugs.

Inspector Said Sarreo said the man assaulted his grandfather when he was told to leave the premises.

Mr Grima was charged with theft, criminal damage, heroin possession, and assaulting his grandfather.

He was further charged with committing a crime during the operative period of two probation orders.

Mr Grima, who was remanded in custody, denies the charges.
