A 66-year-old man who was shot three times in his upper body late on Friday night is claiming two hooded men blocked his car with another vehicle before assaulting him.

Paul Galea from Żurrieq was shot on Friday evening at around 11 p.m. in Dun Karm Lia Street, Safi. Police said his condition is serious but not critical.

He told the police he was driving when another vehicle pulled up, blocking the road. Two hooded and armed men, each holding a gun, got out of their vehicle, walked over to his car and shot him, before driving off, he told investigators.

Mr Galea managed to drive to the Żurrieq police station and staggered in at around 11.30 p.m., the police said in a statement. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
