A Libyan man claimed yesterday he was assaulted by officers at the St Julian’s police station on Tuesday evening.

Eihab Ahmed Elsadi, 31, from Gżira, was arrested after the police found him in a drunken state, the court heard. He boarded a bus but the officers arrested him.

He was kept for some time and when told he could leave, he enquired why he had been arrested. An argument ensued in which the accused was injured, his lawyer Anthony Cutajar told Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit.

The court ordered that a doctor should examine Mr Elsadi and document his injuries. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €15,000.
