A furious 45-year-old man who tried to defend his sister from her partner ended up in court yesterday after he confronted the man with a pistol in the middle of Paceville.

Alan Ciangura, from Mġarr, went to Paceville last Friday carrying an unlicensed Browning pistol. He cocked the gun and pointed it at Birol Karabulut, Police Inspector James Grech said.

Lawyer Chris Cardona told Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit that Mr Ciangura was ready to admit to the charge but asked for judgement to be delivered on another day so that he would have a chance to pay for any costs arising from the magisterial inquiry into the incident.

The magistrate granted Mr Ciangura bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €500.

Judgement will be delivered next month.
