A driver was the victim of a “barbaric attack” last Saturday, losing an eye after being hit on the head with a crowbar in a road rage incident, a court heard yesterday.

Daniel Farrugia, 26, of Mosta yesterday pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Robert Azzopardi at around 11 p.m.

Police Inspector Edmond Cuschieri said the barbaric attack had caused Mr Azzopardi to suffer complete loss of vision in one eye.

He said the two men knew each other as neighbours but were not on speaking terms and the attack was sparked off by a traffic incident. Defence lawyer Anġlu Farrugia said it was his client who was the victim in this case as he had been trying to defend himself against an onslaught by the victim.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia remanded Mr Farrugia in custody after taking onto consideration the seriousness of the incident.
