A man has been jailed for a year for making use of a forged cheque to buy more than €350 worth of drinks.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman found Paul Gauci Borda, 46, guilty of using the forged cheque at Wands but cleared him of using other forged cheques at other shops.

Witnesses at the shops did not recognise Mr Gauci Borda and only a worker at Wands was able to make a positive identification. For this reason he could only be found guilty of that charge.

He was also cleared of breaking into a car, stealing a cheque book and forging a signature onto the cheques.
