A 46-year-old man was injured after he fell a height of one-and-a-half storeys when the stone slabs of a room he was in at his Valletta home gave way yesterday.

Christopher Ellul was on the first floor of the house in St Ursula Street, which he shares with his sister.

It was about midday when some slabs (xorok) gave way under Mr Ellul’s weight, sending him plummeting almost five metres below through a gaping hole. He fell into the residence’s sitting room.

It is understood that Mr Ellul was hit by falling stones. His sister was on the second floor of the house at the time and called for help.

Civil Protection Department personnel and several policemen were soon on site.

Mr Ellul was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital where he was treated for the injuries he sustained.
