A man allegedly fired shots at two Mosta neighbours from his roof over damage to his car that amounted to a mere €120, jurors heard yesterday.

The accused, Carmelo Camilleri, 61, stands charged with the attempted murder and serious injury of Mary Galea, 48 and her son Clint, 22, on August 8, 2009 at about 5 p.m.

Taking the witness stand, Police Inspector Michael Mallia said the accused flew into a rage over the fact that Ms Galea’s other son, Massimo, who had accidentally reversed into his car, had not yet paid him for the repairs. The two had agreed that a spray painter would fix the car.

The accused lived opposite the victims. On the day in question, Clint Galea went to greet a friend who was waiting at the front door and when the accused saw him he started shouting at him. Clint ran back into the house and told his girlfriend and mother to get into the bathroom. That was when they heard two shots ring out.

Ms Galea realised that her husband was on his way back from work and she and her son ran out to warn him.

They heard another two shots and they were both hit with pellets as the accused shot at them from his roof, the officer testified.

The trial continues.
