A drunken man who assaulted soldiers after demanding to speak to the President at the crack of dawn yesterday was handed a suspended sentence.

Karl Ebejer, 25, of Attard, pleaded guilty to assaulting three army soldiers, who were on duty at San Anton Palace yesterday morning at around 6.30 a.m.

Mr Ebejer informed the soldiers on duty that he wanted to speak to President George Abela. When his request was turned down, he became aggressive.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting the soldiers, disobeying their orders, disturbing the peace and using vulgar language.

The man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for one year.
