A man was yesterday sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment after admitting to trafficking ecstasy in the vicinity of the Junior College, in Msida.

Andrè Falzon, 26, from St Paul’s Bay pleaded guilty instead of facing a trial by jury to drug trafficking and simple possession of heroin.

The court heard that he was caught outside the Junior College with 346 ecstasy pills in October 2005.

He resisted arrest and got away from police who, however, eventually traced him. He slightly injured a policeman in the process.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia also fined him €15,000, which will be converted into an extra year in jail if unpaid.

Lara Lanfranco and Charmaine Camilleri Zarb from the Attorney General’s office prosecuted.

Josè Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for the accused.
