A Somali man who tried to escape a fight by jumping onto two parked cars ended up in court charged with wilful damage of the vehicles.

Guled Hussein Jama, 26, from Marsa, got into the fight on Tuesday at about 7.45pm in Marsa.

The vehicles involved were a Maruti 800 and a Suzuki Swift, with the damage estimated to amount to €480.

In the arraignment yesterday he pleaded guilty to the crime and after taking into account he was a first time offender, Magistrate Giovanni Grixti conditionally discharged him for two years.

The magistrate told Police Inspector Geoffrey Azzopardi that the victims could open civil proceedings against Mr Jama to get paid for the damages.
