A man was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to stealing cash and jewellery from two houses in the same street last September.

Mark Zahra, 43, from Fgura, was charged with stealing the items from the houses in Vjal Independenza in Mosta in the evening of September 14.

He allegedly stole cash, jewellery and various other items from one house and several jewellery items from the other. He was also accused of relapsing.

Before Magistrate Anthony Vella, Mr Zahra denied the charges brought against him. The court turned down his request for bail and remanded him in custody.

Police Inspector Carlos Cordina prosecuted.
