An 82-year-old man is in a critical condition after he fell from a height of about two storeys while painting a warehouse door at a quarry in Ta’ Kandja, Siġġiewi.

Initial reports said Anthony Camilleri was not grievously injured, but his condition took a turn for the worse and about four hours after the 10.20am accident the police said he was in a critical condition.

He was still conscious when he was carried to an ambulance that took him to hospital. Mr Camilleri was given first aid by quarry workers.

Charles Camilleri, who helps run Ta’ Matti & Sons, said the victim was his grandfather, who would head to the quarry every day to lend a hand in the family business.

The company supplies stone chippings used in roof tiling and cement.

It is also involved in the transportation of sand and gravel and offers crane services.
